Are your emails getting through?
If you send out eMails are you sure they're reaching your intended audience? Or are they getting caught in junk mail folders? Or simply vanishing into the ether?
Return Path, a "reputation management" firm, claims this happens to about 1 in 5 eMails sent by US firms and 1 in 7 by EU ones. That's a lot of eMail traffic floating around that serves no purpose. Unfortunately it appears firms aren't necessarily aware of this, as they tend to count "hard bounces" - those that get an undeliverable message. As such marketers could be convinced their marketing is more effective than it really is.
And before you start to blame mailing list providers this research was conducted on permission based eMail lists - so that's the eMail addresses that firms have collected from people who want to be contacted.
