Blogging for pleasure - or is it for business?

Here's the thing. We who write our blogs and tweet and whatever else are happy to share snippets of information about our employers. We're sometimes a little careless about saying things that maybe reveal a secret, or hint at something we're working on that isn't supposed to be in the public domain. Sometimes what we don't say can be as telling.

Yet we owe a duty of care to our employers not to reveal such things. Many of us have contracts of employment that could - if our employer wished - be used to terminate our employment in an instant. And still we blog.

Where is that balance? From my perspective it is about being discrete. On this blog I will not talk about what I do with my employer, only pass my own view on what I may think about a topic from a purely personal stand point. I will not tell you what I do from day to day, nor will I reveal information about the company I work for. I might talk about how I have responded to certain situations, or offer suggestions for how you might, but nothing (nothing) should be read as "this is what my employer does right now."

And I think that is as good a good starting point as any.
