The tale of two suits

I wanted to buy a couple of suits and being an upstanding member of the community though I would visit my local tailor. I walked in, explained what I was looking for - about a 36" waist on trousers, dark colours, would prefer 2 pairs of trousers. Couldn't help me. The head started shaking before I got to the end, the arms never came from across his chest. So I left.

Then there was Burtons. I walked in, went straight to the suits and started looking at the suits. That was walk past two shop assistants. Apparently putting out stock is more important than customers, so I walked out again. Not a word was said.

So well done to Moss Bros. Engaging conversation, taking time to measure me, to understand what I was looking for, budgets, colours. Oh, and machine washable trousers means I don't need two pairs. And the chap who helped me out (OK, sold to me) found the right balance between being exceptionally professional and friendly.

It can be done - but it looks like small business needs to get its act together.
