Jessy and the improvised backdrop

When I work with models on the streets of London I rarely have a clear picture in my head of what sort of shots I want to capture. This is part of the charm of this kind of work: turn up, see what's around and then improvise.

Walls are obvious candidates as bright paint schemes or interesting textures can add something to the image. So too can props such as benches, railings and windows.

Here I used stairs. The dirty colour of the concrete and the orange-esq paint seemed to compliment Jessy's outfit. It looks planned. It is, in fact, pure chance.

So keep your eyes open, people. I might use models, but you can capture a great candid shot with friends and loved ones if you keep your wits about you.

Dabbling in fetish photography and portraiture

This is one of those images that's been sat on my hard disk with not a lot to do. At one point I was thinking of diving down a fetish trail and doing a lot more work in the genre. That died a death. Then I was going to launch a site with nothing but hot young girls and that died too. So it languished.

When I was backing everything up to a new drive a couple of weeks ago it resurfaced and I decided "enough was enough".

So here it is, the first of a series that will flow out over the coming weeks to test reaction.

And then she cracked up

I have no idea what I said. Whatever it was it had Dynamic Jen in stitches.

A fox catches a nap in my back garden - urban wildlife

Little bit surprised when I unlocked the French Windows to find I had an uninvited lodger.

I fought my first reaction of getting the vermin to scram, instead opting for a slow retreat, grab the camera, put the 300mm lens on it and creep slowly back.

By then the fox was asleep again, although its left eye squinted open a few times just to make sure I was staying put...

Amanda - releasing the inner singer

This was a little bit of fun from the middle of a shoot with Amanda, a model who turned make-up artist. I found the microphone in the props cupboard, she was already wearing the shirt, so we went for it.

Babyface - a strong profile

There's no denying that Babyface was a very pretty young woman. Face on she lived up to her chosen moniker. In profile she had a much stronger look, as this portrait shows.

Jessy - an artist passing through London

Jessy is an artist who found herself in London for a while. I was lucky enough to photograph her one morning.

Worksafe photography mode failure...

Yesterday I was editing down a few pics, getting ready to upload them to Flickr. Most of what I was working on was glamour photography. A few shots of a couple of girls in their underwear, some PVC, a couple of other bits and bobs. Nothing too shocking.

Anyhoo, when I finished I shut the lid on the MacBook and wandered off, forgetting all about it.

Scooted it into my bag in the morning.

Went to work.

Opened it.

Ah...

Bit of a surprise, but managed to recover quickly.

Just a reminder to close down unused folders and applications when going to sleep the night before work.
